Earlier, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Chancellor Angela Merkel marked the anniversary by thanking Jap European neighbors for spurring on the peaceable revolution.

The toppling of the wall, which separated the Communist-ruled East from the capitalist West in Berlin for practically three a long time and have become a potent image of the Chilly Warfare, was adopted a 12 months later by the reunification of Germany in 1990.
