LONDON (Information) – Former world quantity 4 and Australian Open runner-up Dominika Cibulkova introduced her retirement on Tuesday.
The 30-year-old Slovakian claimed eight WTA singles titles and entered the highest 4 in 2017.
Her largest title got here in 2016 when she defeated then world primary Angelique Kerber to win the WTA Finals.
Cibulkova, who has not performed because the French Open, grew to become the primary Slovak girl to achieve a Grand Slam singles closing in 2014 when she misplaced to China’s Li Na on the Australian Open.
She stated she had made up her thoughts about retirement at Roland Garros. “It was unusual as a result of I knew, and nobody round me besides my crew knew it will be my final match,” she stated.
“At that time, I used to be 100% certain. I wasn’t doubting or considering ‘perhaps sure or no.’ I knew I needed to do it like this, for this to be my final match. I went dwelling and was pleased with my determination.
“It’s arduous to make it, however when you do, you’re feeling extra free.”
